Help us, help Mikaela
On September 18th, 2012 Mikaela Gerick was diagnosed with AML Leukemia. She was hospitalized for treatment from September 2012 until February 2013 with a few brief trips home in between four rounds of chemotherapy. Mikaela had several bumps along the path of her treatment including an extended visit to the Pediatric ICU due to multi-system organ failures. Hard to keep a sturdy girl down though...she enjoyed remission from March 2013 until August 2014. Unfortunately on August 22. 2014, Mikaela relapsed. After a summer working as a camp counselor, Mikaela came home with one of her infamous mystery rashes. While trying to diagnose the rash, we learned Mikaela was in early stages of a relapse. Her next step will involve getting back into remission so she can have a bone marrow transplant.
